California LifeLine renewal: pink envelope, deadlines, and reminders

California LifeLine renewal starts well before your anniversary date. Missing a notice can interrupt your benefit, so the timeline matters.

TL;DR

California starts renewal 105 days before your anniversary. If there is no completed renewal in the first 10 days, a paper renewal form can arrive in a pink envelope. The annual report lists a 44-day initial window and a 20-day second chance period.

What to do when renewal mail arrives

  1. Open every California LifeLine notice immediately.
  2. Confirm your name, address, and household information.
  3. Use active benefit proof if automatic matching cannot confirm Medi-Cal, CalFresh, or another qualifying program.
  4. Keep screenshots or copies of anything you submit until the renewal is approved.
  5. If you also receive a federal Lifeline recertification notice, complete that separately.

For the broader federal annual recertification process, read the national Lifeline recertification guide.
