About Cliq Mobile
Cliq Mobile is an independent Lifeline resource site. We help low-income Americans understand the federal Lifeline program, compare the providers that actually serve their state, and buy unlocked phones that work with those providers. We are not a Lifeline service provider.
What we do now
Three things:
- We compare Lifeline providers. We maintain independent rankings and reviews of Eligible Telecommunications Carriers (ETCs) — the providers legally authorized to offer Lifeline service. See our 2026 rankings.
- We help you understand the program. Lifeline is a federal benefit with real rules — who qualifies, what you get, how to recertify. Our Lifeline Program Guide explains it in plain English.
- We sell unlocked phones. The free phone your Lifeline provider ships is usually basic. The BLU C5L Max is a brand new unlocked smartphone for $45, compatible with any T-Mobile-based Lifeline provider.
Why the change?
Cliq Mobile used to sell service to low-income households. We stopped offering service in 2025. Rather than shut the site down, we rebuilt it as a public resource — because there's a real gap in the market for an honest, neutral guide to the Lifeline program.
Most of the top-ranked content for "best free government phone" is published by the providers themselves (unsurprising conflict of interest), or by generic affiliate farms that don't know the program. We've spent years inside this industry. That's the resource we want to be.
Our editorial stance
- Rankings are not pay-to-play. We earn commissions from some providers we list, but that never changes rank order. See our editorial standards.
- We write for non-experts. The Lifeline audience includes a lot of readers with limited tech fluency and limited trust in telecom companies. We write in plain language, no jargon, no manipulative pressure tactics.
- Factual claims only about other providers. We won't speculate about legal issues, fraud cases, or anything we can't source publicly. We focus on what's useful: who has good coverage, who has the best plan, who approves applications the fastest.
Who we are
Cliq Mobile is operated by Cliq Communications LLC, a Florida limited liability company. We are an independent small business. We are not affiliated with any specific Lifeline provider, the FCC, USAC, or any government entity.
How we make money
- Phone sales. When you buy a BLU C5L Max from our shop, we earn a retail margin.
- Affiliate commissions. Some Lifeline providers pay us a referral fee when a reader applies for service through a link on our site. This is disclosed above every list containing affiliate links (see our affiliate disclosure).
- Display ads. Some pages include ads from Google, Ezoic, or other networks.
None of this should affect the quality of what we publish. If we ever let it, please let us know.
