Independent guide — not the government, not a Lifeline provider

COMPASS GA Is Now Georgia Gateway. You're Still Eligible.

Georgia's COMPASS benefits portal (compass.ga.gov) was replaced by Georgia Gateway. If you used COMPASS to apply for or manage SNAP, Medicaid, or TANF, your account moved with you. Your eligibility for a free Lifeline phone didn't change either.

What Happened to COMPASS GA?

COMPASS (Common Point of Access to Social Services) was Georgia's online benefits application and case-management portal. The state replaced it with Georgia Gateway (gateway.ga.gov), a modernized platform that handles the same programs with a cleaner interface and single sign-on across agencies.

If you had a COMPASS account, your case records are now accessible through Georgia Gateway. You may need to create new login credentials the first time — your benefits themselves don't require re-application.

Programs Managed on Georgia Gateway (Formerly COMPASS)

  • SNAP (Food Stamps) — Georgia's food assistance program
  • Medicaid & PeachCare for Kids — health coverage for adults and children
  • TANF — Temporary Assistance for Needy Families
  • CAPS — Childcare and Parent Services
  • WIC — Women, Infants, and Children nutrition
  • Refugee Cash Assistance

If You Used COMPASS GA, You Likely Qualify for a Free Phone

The programs managed on Georgia Gateway are the same programs that qualify Georgia residents for the federal Lifeline program — free phone or internet service for low-income households. If you're enrolled in any of these, you qualify today:

  • SNAP (Food Stamps)
  • Medicaid (including PeachCare for Kids)
  • SSI (Supplemental Security Income)
  • Federal Public Housing Assistance (Section 8)
  • Veterans Pension & Survivors Benefit
  • Income at or below 135% of Federal Poverty Guidelines

How to Apply for a Free Phone

  1. Log in to Georgia Gateway at gateway.ga.gov and confirm your active SNAP, Medicaid, or TANF case.
  2. Pick a Lifeline provider — compare Lifeline providers serving Georgia.
  3. Apply with the provider — submit your name, address, date of birth, and the last four of your SSN, plus proof of your qualifying benefit (a Georgia Gateway screenshot or approval letter works).
  4. Get verified and receive your phone — the National Verifier confirms eligibility, and your chosen provider ships the free smartphone.

COMPASS GA → Georgia Gateway FAQ

Why can't I log in to compass.ga.gov anymore?

Georgia retired the COMPASS portal and migrated everything to Georgia Gateway. Go to gateway.ga.gov and create a new account if this is your first visit.

Did my benefits change when COMPASS became Georgia Gateway?

No. The portal changed, not the programs. If you were approved for SNAP or Medicaid, you're still approved. Case records, payment schedules, and recertification dates carried over.

Does my old COMPASS approval letter still count as Lifeline proof?

Yes, as long as the benefit is still active. For faster approval, grab a fresh screenshot from Georgia Gateway showing your current case status.

I have PeachCare for Kids — does my household qualify for Lifeline?

PeachCare for Kids is Georgia's CHIP program, not Medicaid. It isn't a direct Lifeline qualifier, but the income limits that get you PeachCare usually mean you qualify for Lifeline on income. Check your household size against the 135% FPG threshold.
