Independent guide — not the government, not a Lifeline provider

Home Internet Service

Get affordable home internet through fixed wireless access and government assistance programs. Compare your Lifeline-based internet options and stay connected.

Internet Options for Eligible Households

Staying connected at home is critical for education, employment, healthcare, and everyday communication. For low-income households, several federal programs exist to help make internet service affordable or even free. Understanding your options is the first step toward getting connected.

Cliq Mobile is an independent Lifeline resource that helps eligible families understand and access the connectivity programs they qualify for. Here is an overview of the programs and technologies available to you.

Lifeline Internet Benefit

The federal Lifeline program provides a monthly discount of up to $9.25 on phone or internet service for qualifying households. Through Lifeline, many providers offer free or deeply discounted phone service with high-speed data that can serve as your primary internet connection.

Lifeline eligibility is based on participation in government assistance programs such as:

  • SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program)
  • Medicaid (including Medi-Cal in California)
  • SSI (Supplemental Security Income)
  • Federal Public Housing Assistance (Section 8)
  • Veterans Pension & Survivors Benefit
  • Income at or below 135% of Federal Poverty Guidelines

Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) Status

The Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) was a separate federal program that provided up to $30/month toward internet service for qualifying households. The ACP ended on June 1, 2024, after its funding was exhausted.

However, efforts to restore the ACP are ongoing. Consumer advocacy groups and lawmakers continue to push for program reinstatement. If you would like to be notified when the ACP is restored, you can join the ACP waitlist. In the meantime, the Lifeline program remains active and fully funded.

Fixed Wireless Access (FWA)

Fixed wireless access delivers internet to your home using wireless signals from nearby cell towers rather than physical cables. This technology is particularly beneficial for households in areas where traditional broadband infrastructure is limited.

Quick Setup

No need for cable installation or technician visits. Get connected with a simple plug-and-play device.

Competitive Speeds

Modern 4G LTE and 5G fixed wireless can deliver speeds sufficient for streaming, video calls, and web browsing.

Wide Availability

Wireless internet reaches areas where cable and fiber providers have not yet built infrastructure.

No Credit Check

Lifeline-based internet service does not require a credit check or long-term contract.
