Lifeline recertification — don't lose your benefit.
Every year, you need to confirm you still qualify for Lifeline. If you miss the 60-day window, you lose the benefit — and you may lose your phone number. Here's how to recertify in about five minutes, and how to make sure you never miss it again.
Set a renewal reminder (free).
Tell us when you first enrolled in Lifeline. We'll email you 60 / 30 / 7 days before your recertification deadline so you don't lose the benefit.
Three ways to recertify.
Pick whichever fits. Online is fastest; phone is easiest if you want help.
Fastest
Online
Log in at CheckLifeline.org with the email or Lifeline ID USAC sent you. Confirm your household info, upload any requested documents. Takes 5-10 minutes.
Easiest
By phone
Call USAC's Lifeline Support Center at 1-855-359-4299, Monday-Sunday 9am-9pm Eastern. They'll walk you through recertification on the call. Have your Lifeline ID or phone number ready.
If you prefer paper
By mail
Fill in the recertification form USAC mails to you, include photocopies of any requested proof-of-eligibility documents, and return in the provided envelope. Allow 2-3 weeks for processing.
Some states have a separate recertification.
If you live in a state with a stacking Lifeline supplement, you'll recertify that benefit separately from the federal one. The state PUC (public utility commission) sends its own notice — don't ignore it.
