Spectrum Internet Assist: low-income home internet explained.
Spectrum's low-income internet program (Spectrum Internet Assist) offers 50 Mbps service at $19.99/month for qualifying households. Eligibility is narrower than competitors: you must have a household member receiving SSI (any age) OR be age 65+ with SSI OR have a child in the National School Lunch Program Community Eligibility Provision.
Lifeline is free
You will never pay for the benefit itself. The government pays it directly to your chosen phone provider.

How Spectrum Internet Assist works
Spectrum Internet Assist is Charter Communications' low-income internet program. 50 Mbps service for $19.99/month. Includes in-home Wi-Fi, free modem, no data cap, no contract. Service available wherever Spectrum (formerly Charter, Time Warner Cable, Bright House) has residential coverage.
Eligibility is narrower than competitors
Unlike Xfinity and AT&T, Spectrum does not accept SNAP or Medicaid alone. Qualifying paths: (1) any household member receives Supplemental Security Income (SSI), regardless of age; (2) household age 65+ receives SSI; (3) child in household is enrolled in the National School Lunch Program's Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) — check with your child's school. If you're on SNAP or Medicaid but not SSI, Spectrum Internet Assist won't work — try Xfinity Internet Essentials or AT&T Access instead.
Stacking with Lifeline
Yes — federal Lifeline $9.25/month applies. Net cost: $10.74/month. Apply for Lifeline through USAC first, then transfer the benefit at Spectrum signup.
Coverage
Spectrum serves 41 states. Strongest coverage: NY, CA, TX, OH, MI, WI. If your address has Spectrum, Internet Assist is available to you (subject to eligibility).
