Program-Based Qualification Method:
You can qualify for Michigan Lifeline if you or another person in your household is enrolled in any one of these qualifying public assistance programs:
- Medicaid
- Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)
- Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
- Federal Public Housing Assistance
- Veterans Pension or Survivors Pension Program
- Tribal Eligibility Programs (and living on federally-recognized Tribal lands)
Additional Eligibility for Survivors:
Survivors of domestic violence, human trafficking, and related crimes may qualify for up to six months of emergency Lifeline support with household income at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines, or by participating in one of the following additional programs:
- Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC)
- Free and Reduced-Price School Lunch or Breakfast program, including enrollment at a Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) school or school district
- Federal Pell Grant in the current award year
Documents you'll need
- Proof of program participation: A recent award letter, benefit card, or screenshot from your benefits portal.
- Proof of income (if income-qualifying): Last year's tax return, three consecutive pay stubs, or a statement of benefits.
- Proof of identity: Driver's license, state ID, passport, or tribal ID.
- Proof of Michigan residence: Utility bill, lease, or mortgage statement.
